Because Lehman (and Bear Stearns, and Fannie and Freddie) are "important" to our well-being, the federal government is willing to bail them out. In my lifetime, the only other businesses to get bailed out are the airlines, I think.

What would happen if the Fed didn't help out. Would the people (in the Freddie/Fannie case) who have mortgages through them not have a mortgage any more?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20377909.post-68053260517977758282008-09-13T12:02:00.000-07:002008-09-13T12:02:00.000-07:00I wonder if they will be able to drag out more dry...I wonder if they will be able to drag out more dry ice and mirrors? hmmmJustin_n_ILhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02364920951342189988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20377909.post-90083641800132739002008-09-13T08:23:00.000-07:002008-09-13T08:23:00.000-07:00Randy:"Lehman has had the power to plug any cash s...Randy:
"Lehman has had the power to plug any cash shortfalls by borrowing from the Fed, though it has not actually borrowed any money from the program since March." HUH?! Does this make any sense to anybody? They had unlimited funds from the Fed but they have chosen not to take the money? WHAT?! Maybe it's just me, but this absolutely makes no sense at all. It's almost like they want to fail, like that was the plan all along... Someone please explain the madness. Thanks.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20377909.post-2627468654331646162008-09-13T04:27:00.000-07:002008-09-13T04:27:00.000-07:00Just yesterday I was sitting on the floor, putting...Just yesterday I was sitting on the floor, putting on my socks to go grocery shopping, and a thought popped into my head: "I'll bet we'll wake up Monday and learn that Lehman was Bear Stearned over the weekend."

I don't know why that thought popped into my head yesterday because for some time I've accepted this as inevitable, just as I accept WaMu's demise as inevitable. It's probably my mind subconsciously processing thousands of bits of information and formulating a logical conclusion that such action was imminent.

We'll see...

DaveAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
