This comment may appear twice. I'm still learning how this system works. After quite a bit of searching, I contracted with a private practice Professional Engineer to evaulate my home energy use. Already the computerized blower door tests etc reveal signifacant & dramatic energy leaks via my connecting heating/air conditioning ductwork, the multiple can lights and ceiling fans. According to the engineer, many homes have these problems. The next step compares my past energy usage with the architect's house plans. These findings provide guidance in determining what to do and the possible cost/return ratios. Due to the dangers of existing insulation, whoever makes the corrections or additions needs to wear a hazmat type outfit and respirator. And of course the hot summer temperatures will soon arrive. I don't have cost estimates yet, but with the rapidly rising energy prices, this something everyone might consider. Helen
As a result of the rising costs and demands, I'm looking at available alternative heating sources. This area has easily accessible coal deposits. But even saying the coal burning words stimulates a lot of discussion. One heating source I am considering is swtich grass burning pellet stoves. This may become my backup system. Helen
