BTW (from Wikipedia): John Galt is a fictional character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged and is the subject of the novel's oft repeated question, "Who is John Galt?", and the quest to discover the answer.

As the plot unfolds, Galt is acknowledged to be a creator and inventor who embodies the power of the individual. He serves as a counterpoint to the social and economic structure depicted in the novel. The depiction portrays a society based on oppressive bureaucratic functionaries and a culture that embraces the stifling mediocrity and egalitarianism of socialistic idealism. He is a metaphorical Atlas of Greek mythology, holding up the world.

An engineer by trade, Galt's actions include withdrawing his talents, "stopping the motor of the world," and leading the "strikers" (in this case the captains of industry) against the "looters" (in this case the mob rule of strikers and the common man).

Randy

Funny that you should bring up Ayn Rand, perhaps the most prescient author I know. During the last interview with Jim Rogers that you posted, Mr. Rogers brought up the point that government is propping up the incompetents by taking the money from the competent, when the incompetents should have been allowed to fail. Reminded me of Oren Boyle and Boyle Steel having been propped up at the expense of Rearden Steel as a subtheme in Atlas Shrugged.

Glad you liked the idea. I just know a Galt movement is brewing. As a Christian, I have a different worldview than the atheist objectivist Rand, but to be "living in" her novel forces me to acknowledge her brilliance. The book itself is near pulp-fiction, and hard to read w/o some eyerolls in spots (and for me, much of Galt's speech at the end), but I have it out again just because it is so eerily prescient.

My take on Atlas Shrugged was that Ayn Rand envisioned her protagonist as a a "Capitalist" fighting socialism. Things didn't turn out that way.

Instead the "Capitalist" won supremacy in the Reagan years. What prevailed was "crony capitalism". It culminated in this current looting on a gigantic scale (by "Capitalist", and not "Socialist".

Ayn Rand was flat out WRONG!
Her sacred capitalism got hijacked & perverted. It's on course to do more damage than socialism ever has.
