Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907

Viewpoints certainly have changed over the years...

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

My Thoughts:

Political correctness and the inability to speak honestly has now bankrupted our souls and helped to decay our society... Whereas honesty and constructive criticism were used in years past to shape desired behavior, we are now overly sensitive and don't want to hurt anyone's special "feeelings"... NOW EVERYONE IS SPECIAL AND EQUAL!!!

Pathetic and weak we have become!

Correct. I am not an "Irish-American" or a "Mexican-American". I am an American, period. And if I can be bothered to learn to speak English, so can anyone else who wants to be an American.

You love your country of (fill in the blank) so much? Then go home and fix it up and live THERE - stop demanding that America change itself to make YOU more comfortable.

They're Remaking Red Dawn?! Shame On You MGM!

Ellsworth explains his plans: "The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in. As Red Dawn scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?

Naked man hijacks Vegas bus

REVIEW-JOURNAL

A naked man was arrested Tuesday morning after hijacking a Citizens Area Transit bus.

Las Vegas police said the man, 35-year-old Charles P. Sell, was first seen stealing a beer at the 7-Eleven on the corner of Lamb Boulevard and Washington Avenue about 8 a.m.

An officer arrived at the scene and the man fled, a police spokesman said.

Sell then climbed onto the back of a moving CAT bus traveling east on Washington, broke one of the back windows with his fists, and climbed in.

He threw the driver off the bus and drove it about 200 yards before jumping off, according to police. An officer climbed aboard and stopped it.

Sell was arrested and taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation before being booked at the Clark County Detention Center on felony charges of robbery, grand larceny and malicious destruction of private property, according to police.

He was being held on $14,000 bail.

Police said the man was possibly on drugs during the incident.

Sell has a history of criminal charges, records show. He most recently pleaded guilty to burglary in 2002 and was given probation.

Patrick-

I vaguely remember Red Dawn but it seems a bit outdated (paratroopers??). More recently, the 2 year TV series Jericho did a fine job of depicting post apocalyptic America. Basically, in Jericho, it was an inside job (Coordinated nuclear explosions-made to look performed by foreign terrorists) done by domestic secretive power elite to seize control of the country and install Marshall Law. Now that's paranoia!
